Visitor Information

The name, Presbyterian, comes from the Greek word for elder in the New Testament Scriptures.  Part of the Reformed Tradition, Presbyterians have a representative form of government – leaders are elected each year to serve and lead the congregation.  We affirm that Jesus Christ is the head of the church, that we are loved and called by God into relationship and service, and that the Holy Spirit guides and sustains us in our journey of faith.  We joyfully live our lives in gratitude to the One who created us, redeems us (makes us right with God), and sustains us.

Our essential tenets include: belief in the sovereignty of God; the election of the people of God for service as well as for salvation; covenantal life marked by a disciplined concern for order in the church; following Jesus as we understand him through the inspired and authoritative witness of Holy Scripture; faithful stewardship that shuns ostentation and seeks proper use of the gifts of God; the recognition of the pervasiveness of sin in the world and even in the church, necessitating our regular confession and constant work for the transformation of the world in which we live; humility in the recognition that we do not have all the answers and are not yet complete – God’s grace goes before us, through us, after us, and around us as God so chooses.

We are delighted that you are interested in exploring membership at First Presbyterian Church Frankfort!  The session ordinarily meets on the third Wednesday evening of each month at 7:00 p.m. to receive new members. We also meet occasionally on Sunday mornings to accommodate different schedules. Individuals wishing to join introduce themselves and say a few words about their faith journey to the session members present.  The Pastor will ask three questions, related to your faith and intention to join. There are three ways to join:

  • by Profession of Faith (and Baptism for those who have never been baptized)
  • by Reaffirmation of Faith (for those who are not currently active members of another Christian church)
  • by Transfer of Church Letter (for those on the active role of another church)

It is also possible to join as an Affiliate Member (for those who are in Frankfort on a short-term, temporary basis. This category of membership is especially appropriate for college students.)

There are some in our community of faith who worship with us regularly and choose not to officially join.  If this is your desire, we welcome you too!  We encourage you to be part of this active and growing community of faith however God’s Spirit leads you.
